Manager, Seed Integrity Pledge Program
Born in Wichita, Kansas, Lakin is the oldest of 5 siblings. She understood early the importance of leadership and being a good role model for her younger siblings. Her passions for health led her to a collegiate program in Dietary Management, where she went on to become a Dietary Manager in geriatrics. As she became experienced in her field and explored taking the next step to become a Registered Dietitian, she learned some shocking things about the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that opened her eyes. Their sponsors were (and still are) riddled with junk food companies. Lakin felt this was a conflict of interest and was simultaneously encountering push-back in her job for wanting higher-quality and healthier food options for the patients living in the Senior Community. It was also at this time that Lakin and her husband found out that she was pregnant.
Ultimately, Lakin made the difficult decision to cut ties with her employer. Shortly after the birth of her first child, she took a position as a Vitamin, Supplement & Body Care Associate for Sprouts Farmers Market. This immersive, wonderful experience shaped her education and views on the role of vitamins and supplements in our health. It was the missing piece in the puzzle of health that she couldn’t find in the field of traditional Dietetics. She finally felt fulfilled and was truly helping people to achieve better health.
Fast forward a decade, Lakin has three beautiful, healthy children with her husband and they are settled in Missouri. She turned her focus towards raising her kids to be educated in and practice healthy living. Throughout this time, they have had backyard laying hens, wildflower and vegetable gardens. They love spending time outdoors and baking/cooking together as a family. As her kids are getting older now, Lakin has taken on affiliate marketing and the Seed Integrity Pledge Project project for GMO/Toxin Free USA.
